Tuesday: Bridges / Bluff Route

Tuesday - Our Last Day:(

Last night me and the boys went to Mt. Bethel to help bring in homeless people into the gymnasium where there was about 100 beds set up and two other rooms with 20 other beds set up, we helped them get food, find a bed and use the restrooms. There was an Oklahoma versus Georgia college football game that everyone was watching. I had the great opportunity to meet a little boy named Jacob who I played with for a while and learned a lot from. He could always put a smile on everyone’s face. Then me and the boys went to another room to find our own beds to sleep on.
Today on Tuesday we got up early and came back to seven bridges to recovery to make lunches. We then went on routes to spread out the lunches to people. We also had the great opportunity to meet some homeless Christian people who knew a lot about God.

Last night we had the privilege to go to Mount Bethel Christian Academy which is about 9 miles away from 7 Bridges. We had the opportunity to help homeless and talk to them during their stay at the school, we also slept in the school in a different room. At 6:00 everyone had to leave back to where they came from. We then were bussed back to 7 Bridges and ate breakfast and slept for 2 more hours. We then got up wearily and got ready for the day. Today we went on routes again and prayed with people and gave them lunches. One family let us into their house. “Y’all come in and get outa the cold” is what the woman said to us. Once we entered I was amazed at what they had to live in. The floors were all cracked and the floors were full of the families belongings and there was cigarettes on the floor and smelled like smoke and the kids didn’t look like they had a lot but regardless they all looked happy when we arrived. I felt so happy when I knew I was helping them and making their day. After that we played with the kids and had devotions we said goodbye to some of the guys because they were leaving and then they wouldn’t be back to say goodbye later. I am so sad to leave this place, I had an amazing time here. I hope the people at 7 Bridges were glad they had is to help them. I am impacted by all this, because going into this trip i assumed that all the homeless people had a little more than what i saw that they had. I was also surprised on how much some of them actually wanted to pray. I am thankful that i was able to go on this trip and have this experience. God has made me come out of my comfort zone and pray with people i never knew I would associate with.

On the fourth night of our trip, we went to Mt. Bethel which is a huge church and school. While we were there we escorted and housed about 70 homeless people in their gymnasium. Each one of them got a bed with blankets and sheets as well as a hygiene pack. I met a man named Wilson who was an older man. The people at Mt. Bethel had the Rose Bowl on and he was rooting for Georgia over Oklahoma. We (all the guys) slept in a separate room that was formerly used for yoga. None of the girls came along. The next morning we went back to Seven Bridges at 6:00 for an early breakfast. I sat with a little boy named DeAveon and his family. What was really cool was that before breakfast their family of five recited a passage from Philippians from memory, and the four kids were really young. Then we went on routes and met a really nice man named Kenny who just needed a place to stay. We had a debrief in a nearby park where we climbed up a huge spider web structure. Then we ventured back to The Garden.

Last night the guys went to Mt Bethel Church and helped the staff collect and direct the homeless that wanted to come inside from the ridiculously cold night. So what we did was walk around in pairs and talk, eat, and pray with the guys. There was a football game playing and we met a ton of cool people. We walked around until about 11:00 and then went into our room and messed around for awhile before going to sleep. The next morning at 5:30 we got up and came back to 7 Bridges where we had a continental breakfast and went back to bed.

At about ten we left on our route. Our first stop was in and underpass with thundering traffic all over the place. We saw about a dozen people and prayed for them and gave them lunches. The next few stops we were under highways.

When we got to our last stop, the Bluff, we walked around a bunch and talked to a lot of people and handed out about 70 lunches. I met two little dudes named David and Super that were amazing they each took a lunch for their mums and were very eager to pray with me. Definitely going to remember those little guys for a really long time. Also thank you Mr. and Mrs. Hendrikse for being ing is down here for the week.

We were given the unique opportunity to help out a nearby church house homeless people for the night.  This is shortly after we checked in.

This is Warren.  He loves football and was grateful for the opportunity to watch the  Rose Bowl and get a good night sleep indoors.  It was really hard to get everyone up at 5:00 am to get them breakfast and coffee and send them back out into the cold.

An early breakfast back at the Garden before catching another hour of sleep

We have gotten to know Nick pretty well over the last few years.  We really value his friendship and consider him family.
